Planning permission granted for Knocknair Renewable Energy Park

Inverclyde Council's Planning Board has approved Renewco Power's 25MW solar project at Dougliehill Road — a £30 million investment in local clean energy.

Renewco Power is delighted to announce that Inverclyde Council's Planning Board has granted planning permission for Knocknair Renewable Energy Park, a 25MW solar farm at Dougliehill Road, Port Glasgow.

Once operational, Knocknair will generate enough clean electricity to power the equivalent of 7,500 homes a year — comparable to every home in Port Glasgow. The project represents a £30 million investment in Inverclyde and is expected to support up to 50 jobs through construction and operation, generate £1.6 million in business rates and deliver £6.3 million of spend with businesses in the local economy. Renewco has committed £11,250 a year to community benefit for the operational life of the project, delivering direct economic and social value to the area.

The application was supported by Inverclyde Chamber of Commerce and attracted no objections from statutory consultees.

Richard Koiak, Chief Development Officer UK at Renewco Power, said:

"Knocknair is a £30 million investment in Port Glasgow that will deliver clean power equivalent to every home in the town, alongside jobs, business rates and a long-term community benefit commitment. We are grateful to the local people, businesses and elected members who engaged with us throughout the process.

"We now turn to preparing the site for construction, and we would encourage local businesses to get in touch to explore how we can work together.

"We look forward to continuing to work with communities in Port Glasgow to deliver affordable renewable energy and to make sure the benefits are felt locally."

Knocknair is the latest in a series of consents secured by Renewco's UK development team, with further applications progressing through the planning system across Scotland and England.
