Hare Hill Solar and BESS consented on appeal in County Durham
A 50MWp solar array (31.5MW export) and 10.35MW battery storage project developed with Locogen has secured planning permission, powering the equivalent of 17,600 homes.
Renewco Power is delighted to announce that planning permission has been granted on appeal for the Hare Hill Solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in County Durham.
Developed in partnership with Locogen, Hare Hill comprises a 50MWp solar array (31.5MW export) and a 10.35MW co-located battery energy storage facility. Once operational, the project will generate enough clean electricity to power approximately 17,600 homes a year and displace an estimated 13,050 tonnes of CO₂ annually.
The successful appeal is a significant milestone for the project and reflects the collaborative effort of the wider development team. Locogen's Planning and Environment consultancy led the planning application, and the appeal team included David Hardy of CMS and Andy Cook of Pegasus Group.
Richard Koiak, Chief Development Officer UK at Renewco Power, said:
"We are delighted to have secured consent for Hare Hill following a rigorous planning and appeal process. The decision recognises the role that well-sited renewable energy developments play in delivering the UK's energy security and net zero ambitions. Hare Hill will provide enough clean electricity to power around 17,600 homes, with battery storage to support a more flexible and resilient network. Our thanks go to the entire project team for their professionalism and persistence in achieving this outcome."
Hare Hill is Renewco Power's third planning consent in two years, with a further four applications awaiting determination and more due for submission later this year — a growing pipeline that will contribute to the UK's energy transition, strengthen energy security and support delivery of net zero targets.
