Manager Development East Region (USA)
Job details:
To proactively develop Renewco’s greenfield portfolio in the US, we are seeking an experienced, utility scale renewable energy project developer with a commercial mindset pursuing and creating value while contributing to the development project pipeline. This role will be directly involved in the day-to-day project decisions with a focus on several key US markets within ERCOT, MISO, and PJM. The candidate can either be remote with a preference to reside in the target market within proximity to an airport for ease of business travel or near the US headquarters of Houston, Texas.
Key activities and responsibilities:
· Responsible for the greenfield development process and potential acquisitions to get projects to NTP / construction ready within strategic timelines.
- Provide hands-on project development:
- Identifying and securing land for utility scale Solar, BESS, and Wind
- Identifying project and partnership opportunities to grow pipeline and negotiating and managing co-development agreements with support from the senior team
- Managing project development process, schedules, and budgets
- Liaising closely with Transmission / Interconnection, Real Estate, and Legal teams
- Negotiating key development contracts
- Analysing and reviewing commercial viability based on projects’ technical design, layout, interconnection, permitting, and total installed cost
- Developing an in-depth knowledge of local and state market legislation and regulations
- Provide team leadership and mentoring of associates on above development activities.
- Be able to manage multiple projects through the project development process with internal and external resources involving market and interconnection analyses, real estate assessments, landowner relationship building, environmental studies, property tax abatement, required permits, regulatory support, land surveys, support execution of interconnection & power purchase agreements, and EPC /
- commissioning support.
- Skilled at commercial due diligence of acquisition targets of renewable energy projects.
- Maintain transparent and timely internal project reporting to leadership.
- Have strong computer skills with appetite to explore potential fit of new software platforms supporting project development.
- Opportunities to present projects to Investment Committee.
Qualifications and experience
- +4 years of development experience with renewable energy projects.
- Experience in ERCOT, MISO, and PJM is essential with WECC being desirable but not essential.
- Able to thrive in remote, entrepreneurial work environment.
- Comfortable leading a team of internal colleagues and external consultants focused on making continual progress on several projects through different stages of development.
- General understanding of the target market’s renewable trends and developments.
- Be approachable and lead by example with a high degree of integrity and professional drive, balanced with empathy.
- Effective, agile thinker and project management leader with relentless drive and a focus on the detail.
- Work well within multi-disciplined teams across several time zones.
- Be able to problem solve by communicating with leadership your option analysis and recommended solution.
- Have demonstrated grit and determination to meet or exceed project milestone goals.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills especially in remote work environment.
- Willing to travel 20-40% domestically, with occasional trip to Europe.
- Business, engineering, energy related, or similar bachelor’s degree preferred.
